Why One-Way Rentals Matter
Most major rental companies avoid one-way options because of the coordination demands. MACK positions itself differently—treating one-way rentals as standard practice rather than expensive exceptions. Your trip should move forward, not loop back.
One-way travel creates a psychological shift—you move forward, not in circles. Pair that with flexible, responsive, human service and the experience becomes effortless.
One-Way Rental Within Croatia
Croatia's geography is perfectly suited to one-way travel. The coastline runs south to north and the major cities connect naturally along a single route. Here is what becomes possible:
Eliminates unnecessary return driving and end-of-trip stress. Flexible arrangements around your schedule, not fixed counters.
International One-Way Rental
Cross-border one-way rentals—for example, starting in Tirana and ending in Slovenia—are also possible. They require more planning, but MACK is experienced in making them work smoothly.
International one-way rentals require:
-
Advance planning and coordination Contact us early so logistics can be confirmed for each country.
-
Proper documentation Rental agreement, passport or ID, and any country-specific paperwork.
-
Valid international insurance coverage We confirm your Green Card covers all countries on the route.
-
Clear logistics communication Drop-off point, time, and contact confirmed before you leave.
MACK handles the administrative side—insurance confirmations, country authorisations, and documentation —so you can focus on the journey itself.
Move Forward
Whether you are island-hopping down the Dalmatian coast or crossing into multiple Balkan countries, a one-way rental removes the single biggest constraint of traditional car hire: having to go back.
The best journeys don't loop back—they move forward. We are here to make that as simple as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which one-way routes are available?
One-way rentals are available between all our office locations — Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula, Poreč, Rovinj, and Zadar. We also have offices in Montenegro (Tivat and Podgorica) and Albania (Tirana), making one-way rentals to those destinations straightforward. Popular routes include Dubrovnik to Split, Split to Zagreb, and Dubrovnik to Tivat. Contact us if your desired route is not listed — we will find a way to make it work.
Is there an extra fee for one-way rentals?
Yes, a one-way fee applies and varies depending on the route and rental length. Longer rentals generally attract a lower one-way fee. The fee is confirmed at booking — ask us for the exact amount for your specific route.
Can I pick up at the airport and drop off in the city centre, or vice versa?
Yes. We have multiple pickup and drop-off points within the same city — airports, downtown offices, hotels, marinas, and private addresses. Mix and match as needed. Just confirm the arrangement at booking so everything is prepared in advance.
Can I do a one-way rental to another country?
Yes — and it is easier than you might expect. We have our own offices in Montenegro (Tivat and Podgorica) and Albania (Tirana), so one-way rentals to those destinations are a standard service. One-way rentals to other approved countries such as Slovenia and Italy are also possible with advance coordination. A cross-border permit is required for each country.
What if I need to change my drop-off location after I have already picked up the car?
Changes to the drop-off location after pickup are possible but subject to a change fee plus any applicable one-way charges. Contact us as soon as you know — the earlier the change is made the easier it is to arrange.
Is a one-way rental more expensive than a return rental?
The one-way fee is an additional cost on top of the daily rate, but for many trips the overall value is higher — you save time, avoid retracing your route, and can plan a more natural itinerary. For longer rentals the one-way fee reduces significantly, making it genuinely cost-effective.
